Change My IP To Protect My Identity And Data

I want to change my IP plus hide my IP from being easily visible, to protect my Internet identity and my security.  Looking around online showed me a few ways to do this easily which was no surprise, I guess plenty of people want to do this.  After all we go online more often than ever before, in more places, often using free  wi-fi networks at coffee shops, hotels and malls.  I realise it’s just common sense to increase my security to protect not only my identity, but also my data.  I  heard that a web proxy or changing my IP was the way to go, but actually I found the best solution is to use a VPN (virtual private network).  It sounds geeky but it’s really simple, it’s just a connection ‘gateway’ to access the Internet.  A simple piece of software to download and install, this connection encrypts all your online activity, which ensures anonymity and security.  So now I’m reassured that whenever I’m online my identity is protected, encrypted and secure – I’m not the only one, read these great reviews from people who’ve found the same.

Change My IP – Secure Me Even On Unsecured Networks!

With so many mobile devices, smartphones and laptops relying on wi-fi hotspots it makes good sense to make sure your device is secure from prying eyes.  That was what I realised when I figured that I don’t even know what local hotspot my smartphone is using when I’m out and about!  This is even more worrying when you consider we don’t have any way of knowing who’s using any of these local wi-fi networks for malicious purposes. It’s important to protect and hide your IP address.  I found that simply by using a VPN service, it does all the security protection for me.  Now when my mobile device automatically logs onto another free hotspot when I’m away from home,  I don’t have to worry.  It’s automatically protected from being intercepted by hackers on the same network.  Using my mobile device online while I travel is now a much safer experience.

Change My IP – Connect Via Another Country

Have you ever tried to watch an online video only to be told it’s not available to view in your country?   Here’s where a VPN has a great way to get over this problem!  With a VPN, I can choose which country your computer appears to connect to the Internet through, and change my IP.  In effect, it’s like you are actually in that country to make your online connection.  It’s a great way to fool other websites into thinking you are actually in the country you specify, when I change IP address.  So now it’s no problem to see content restricted to another country, once I change my IP using the VPN software.

Change My IP – Should I Choose A VPN Or A Web Proxy?

It’s a common question if you want to hide your IP address, which is best.  I’d say a VPN (which is how I change my IP to get encrypted, anonymous web access), for several good reasons.  With a VPN it automatically encrypts your entire Internet connection.  Regardless of whatever browser or software you’re using, everything on your computer is secured by your encrypted Internet connection.  With a web proxy you will have to manually configure each application individually to work with that proxy, which is tricky and time consuming.  Also, encryption methods used by a VPN are based on stronger methods,  so they are considered more secure than web proxies.  So rather than use a proxy, I’d always opt for a VPN service to automatically change my IP and hide my IP instead.  Change my IP.

Good Reasons To Change My IP

Change My IP Hides Me From Network Snoops

I decided I needed to change my IP address after I learnt that whenever I go online my IP address (computer identity) is seen and can be tracked by the websites I visit.  I can understand why some websites do this for genuine reasons, but the thing is – I don’t get any choice which websites do it.  I did some research on the best way to get that choice, and I found a great solution.  I use some VPN software now to change my IP  automatically whenever I’m on the Internet.  The VPN also uses encryption to hide my computer’s identity, so whatever I do online becomes anonymous, protecting my personal identity.  Plus, it makes sure that my connection isn’t visible to any network snoops and hackers. Now I get to choose which (if any) websites I reveal my online identity to.  If I want to change my IP or hide my IP address, this is definitely the best way to do it securely.

Change My IP To Watch TV And Movies

I like to watch streaming TV over my PC, so it’s important to me that using a VPN connection to the Internet doesn’t slow my connection speed.  I needn’t have worried, I haven’t found that a problem at all, they stream just the same as before.  In fact there’s a big bonus to watching videos online this way, because my VPN connection allows me to choose what country my connection is located in.  This means that my computer can ‘appear’ to be located in another country – great for getting around any geographic restrictions.  Now if a video-sharing site like YouTube shows me access is denied in my country, I just choose another country to virtually connect through – cool!

Is My Connection Slower After I Change My IP?

Here’s my experience about how using a VPN connection to change IP address affected my Internet speed.  Firstly, Internet access speed can be affected by quite a few things.  The biggest factor is the speed my ISP gives me in the first place.  Then you have to consider the geography – if I’m browsing a site hosted in Australia while I’m online in California, that’s obviously going to be a little slower than browsing another site hosted down the road in Los Angeles,  because I’m 8,000 miles away!  So when I use the VPN connections, I choose a server location that’s close to me,  and connection speed isn’t an issue.  Using the VPN software I can select the server and country, so it’s easy to do this.

Change My IPChange My IP And Get Around Restrictions

Most of us don’t have any trouble accessing the web because we live in a free society with few restrictions or censorships.   However,  in some countries and with some Internet-providers the world-wide web isn’t so “worldwide” after all.  This is where VPN software can help.  By using the VPN to change my IP address  it’s possible to  bypass limits imposed by such  Internet service providers or governments.  While this hasn’t been a problem to me,  if you want to hide your IP I know it’s helped many people out there get connected to the web despite censorship restrictions.

Does My ISP See When I Change My IP?

My Internet Service Provider is the company that gives me the actual physical connection to the Internet through my phone line.  Usually they get to see exactly what Internet traffic my connection uses.  However, when I connect with my VPN they just see my computer is connected to the VPN service.  Then the VPN connection is encrypted so they can’t make sense of my Internet traffic, all they see is the single connection.  I don’t need to do anything technical to change IP address, the VPN software handles it all.  It’s simply a connection gateway that secures and encrypts my Internet connection, providing anonymity and online security without me having to change my IP.

Hide Your IP And Avoid Being Tracked Online

Who’s Watching You Online?

If  you think that while you’re browsing, maybe doing a little shopping or checking the news, that you aren’t identifying yourself and no-ones watching what you do, then you’re probably mistaken.  A new survey recently released (here ) shows how most of us are being tracked while we’re online, and we don’t realise it.  The survey looked at nearly two hundred high-traffic websites, the kind most of us will regularly use.  Amazingly more than half of these websites shared the visitors username or user ID with another website.  In other words, they took some information about the user, and passed it on to someone else – unknown to the user.  Sites doing this are big, popular sites – like Google and Facebook.  This confirms to me that I was right when I made the choice to find an easy way to change my IP and protect my identity online.Change My IP

Track Me Online – Why Should I Worry?

So big sites are gathering information about me and my browsing habits, maybe even my username or user ID, and passing it on to other companies without me realising.  Why should I care?  Well, for a start, it’s being done without my knowledge, or consent.  More companies than you or I probably thought, are sharing our personal information with third-party websites and companies, and we don’t know who they are, or when it’s happening.  Things like our email address, username, what we’ve just been browsing, what we browsed next, that kind of thing.  In doing so, they are able to build up a profile for every  user – that’s you and me – which can then be sold on to other companies.  Marketing companies then use this information to build up a  detailed profile of you. The solution I use to avoid this, is to change my IP, it’s so easy to do that’s it’s a no brainer.

Change My IP – Track Me If You Can :-)

You might not have a problem with this, thinking it just means you get better advertising targeting at you.  If you don’t have a problem with companies building a profile about you, logging what you watch, your user ID, what sites you visit, that’s fine.  But what if this makes you feel uncomfortable, the thought of being ‘spied’ on like this?  In that case, it’s time to change your IP, and start protecting your identity when you’re online.  There are simple software solutions to help you do this, that protect your identity at the click of a button.  Not only do they protect you when you’re browsing, they protect whatever other software you use that’s connected online as well.  Your entire internet connection becomes hidden, behind a new IP address that’s unrelated to you.  So there’s no way any marketing company can build up a profile of your online life, or get your user IDs.  To change my IP I used hidemyass.com as a software solution to this problem, and can absolutely recommend it.  I found it to work seamlessly in the background – once you click the connection, you really don’t know it’s running.  I can use my internet connection just as you normally would, the only difference is – I know my online identity is protected.

So what do I think about these sites that track me when I’m online?  Time to change my IP, that’s all :-)

Deciding To Change My IP

Time To Change My IP Address

I while ago I learned that my computer has it’s own unique identity code, or IP Address, which is “seen” by whatever websites I visit.  I don’t have a problem with this, after all I can see the sense in why websites would want to “see” my computer and know what I’m looking at.  For example, it’s how shopping sites like Amazon make sure they don’t confuse my shopping cart with someone elses.  However, I realised that it would be a better alternative if I could choose when to share my computer’s identity, instead of it being broadcast automatically.   After all most websites are safe and secure, but how do I know that for every site I may look at, and how would I know which ones to trust?  So I decided it was time to find a way to change my IP address easily, whenever I wanted to, so I can effectively hide my online identity and surf the web anonymously.

After a bit of looking around, I found the easiest way to do this is to use a VPN web proxy service, which you can do for free (click here to try one out).  VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, and the theory behind how they work is simple.  Usually my computer connects via my ISP (internet service provider) to the internet, then directly to whichever website I’m looking at with my browser.  With a VPN, I connect to the website via the VPN’s proxy instead – it provides a link between my computer and whatever I’m looking at online.  The advantage of this is that the website sees the VPN’s address looking at it, noy my computer’s, so I’m hidden and protected.  All of this happens seamlessly, surfing the web is just the same as usual.  The only difference is that my computer identity (my IP address) is sheilded by the VPN web proxy, it does everything needed to change my IP.

I mentioned there are free VPN services to try, a quick google will show you plenty.  The downside to the free services is that they usually put some kind of advertising on your screen, which is no biggy but it is a bit annoying after a while.  So after finding a VPN service I found to be fast and relieable, I decided to try out their paid-for service, whcih offerred several advantages.  Firstly, it gives me a whole load more control in how my IP address is changed.  For example I can choose which country the VPN proxy uses, so I can appear to be based in other places – handy for viewing TV shows on Youtube that have geographical restrictions.  The main advantage though is that it protects al my connections with the web, no matter what software I’m using on my computer, the whole connection is protected.  I’ll write a review in a later post about how I got on with the paid for version to change my IP, but for now why not try it for free?
